Mario’s tornado flute

We get into thinking that we will stay at this level forever, or at least a long time. The fact is, we are more than ready to ‘level up.’ And here’s the cool part: we can skip levels (like Mario). The more focus we put into this level, the more levels we can skip in the future. That means investing in the long term, without fail, and without anyone telling you to. Invest in the things that compound over time: reading, writing, logic, speaking, coding, and the market.

Whoever goes above and beyond with the little things now will be far better off later. This is the core of what it means to invest ‘pennies’ to make fortunes.

Little actions now will launch you worlds forward later.

Perfection and weakness

Seeing weakness in ourselves enables survival tactics. We realize that we can’t do it all, and that we need to use shortcuts: tools and leverages to help us succeed.

I am a perfectionist. It stops me in my tracks before I begin anything that I can’t give 100 percent to. Many opportunities, lost. Opportunities lost to delusions of grandeur. My own thinking that everything I do can be amazing, timeless. It’s not so.

Not so for me, and not so for you.

Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Anyone can do well on a great day. It’s the warrior who makes progress when all hell is upon him.

Show up. Do your best. And do it all again tomorrow. (Hint: Enjoy the little things, the process. It’s all we have.)

Thought ≠ Action

Thinking without acting is a good way to convince yourself of grandiosity. Everyone has delusions, and all delusions are delusions of grandeur. Action is a good way to wake up from delusion. Action is living, of which we must throw ourselves in headlong.
We must throw ourselves headlong into the art of living, or else we die.

Stuck in thoughts is a death by the minutes that are spent there.

You get what you want

It’s human nature. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. Lately, it’s 90 percent our fault when we lose. We are either out of sync with reality, or straight lying to ourselves. Here’s the reality:

  • There are only so many hours in a day, and so many days in a life. The way we live our hours and minutes are the way we live our lives.
  • There is no safety net, but we are also anti-fragile. You and I can withstand so much more than we are lead to believe. A secret: If you’re reading this then you will die with money in the bank. You cannot mess this up, as long as you keep reaching in the right tone.
  • Some people attract money. Other people attract the opposite sex. Still other people attract success and meaningful relationships. We attract what we deserve and what we want. If you want to be successful, then be the kind of person that is successful. Read daily, follow the plan, and show up when you’re supposed to show up.
  • One in 1,000 people did their best at something yesterday. I mean 100 percent effort from start to finish. Try it. Sprint at something today and see how far you can get, how fast. Rest when you’re done. (Our society values speed and intensity at zero, when it’s actually a multiplier)

We all have tools that can help us win, but only some of us are willing to face the reality that’s keeping us from using them. We get what we want.

On focus and keeping the main thing the main thing

Working as hard as you can is good, but not as important as one might think. It’s the quality of decisions, the thing we work on, that matters the most. Workin on a thing consistently, yet slowly, is worth 1000x working fast and hard on multiple things. It took me a long time to realize this, and I hope you learn it faster.

The point: Laser-like focus sets apart the average and the extraordinary. The seemingly average (you and me) can take small steps (with focus) in the same direction every day. Keep the main thing the main thing to make something extraordinary.
